Q. What is Silica Gel?
A. Silica Gel is a dry solid, not a wet substance as the name might suggest. The capsules hold silica gel beads that remain dry to the touch even when fully saturated. The Silica Gel is made from sodium silicate, which is a highly porous substance that can absorb moisture up to 40% of its own weight. This allows Sikica Gel to have the highest absorption capacity of any commercially used desiccant.
Q. What is Color Indicating Silica Gel?
A. We use a Color Indicating Silica Gel that has been impregnated with a chemical that changes from orange to dark green pn color as it absorbs ambient moisture. Silica Gel beads will turn colors when the Silica Gel is about 60% saturated. This indicates it is ready to be reactivated
Key Fact: There is a Blue Indicating Silica Gel that is impregnated with a color changing chemical containing Cobalt Chloride (II) that is blue when activated and pink when deactivated. There have been some significant health and environmental risks attributed to the use of this Blue Indicating Silica Gel.
